Philippians 4:13

I can do all things through him who strengthens me.

Father,  today is a low strength day for me.  I need your strength to make it through this day.  Keep me in your sites.  Lift me when I start to fall.  There is so much to do lately.   I am pulled so many ways.

Give me wisdom to work with each situation but most of all, give me the strength promised in Your word.

1 Chronicles 22: 12

Only may the Lord give you wisdom and understanding.

Father, we ask for Your wisdom each day as we encounter those who need You.  Help us to understand their needs and reach out to them with the help they need.  Speak through us the words they need to hear. Help us to share with them the wisdom and understanding You have given us.

1 Corinthians 16-14

Let all that you do be done with love.

Father, there are so many times when we don’t want to show love to others.  We’ll help them if we know they need it but we’ll avoid them whenever possible.  That doesn’t sound much like love.  Sometimes we need to pull back because there are those who would harm us.  But other times, we need to reach out.  Father, help us to sort out what is right.   Protect us from those who would harm us. Give us wisdom to know when to approach and when to pull back.

May 13 Quote of the Day

Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.
Dr. Seuss

As adults, we often are in need of a little wisdom to get us through the day. Situations where injustice occurs cause many to just look away.  It’s too much to fix.  If you feel that way today, pick up a Dr. Seuss book and read it to your child for a bedtime story. Unless you ‘care a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not’.  Those situations can be fixed.

In a room that’s buried in toys and clothes, you just start where you’re standing.  Pick up the first thing and put it away.  Slowly pick up one thing at a time.  Eventually you’ll be wading through the room.  Same way with social injustice.  Start where you are and just keep moving.

Leviticus 25:35

‘If one of your brethren becomes poor, and falls into poverty among you, then you shall help him, like a stranger or a sojourner, that he may live with you.

Lord,  we in America have forgotten this command You gave Your people so long ago. It’s a command that is still good today but we depend on the government and charitable organizations to take over the responsibility You gave us.    Give us the ability and the desire to help those in need around us. Remind us that You want us to do this. You don’t want us to say ‘go get food stamps, go to such-and-such an organization and get help.’ If we have the food in our cupboards or the money in our pockets, we are the ones You have asked to help.  Help us to stop passing the buck and give us the heart to help our brethren.

Psalm 199:66

Teach me good judgment and knowledge,
For I believe Your commandments

Thank you, Lord, for daily working with me. I strive for that time when I will always use good judgment when faced with difficult situations and difficult people.  I work to gain knowledge by reading  Your word and listening to brothers and sisters in Christ who have been where I am now.  But most of all, I thank You that You have given us guidance by Your commandments to keep us on the right path.

1 Chronicles 28:20

Be strong and of good courage, and do it; do not fear nor be dismayed, for the Lord God—my God—will be with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you, until you have finished all the work for the service of the house of the Lord.

Father,  when You have given us our instructions, remind us that we should be strong and of good courage. Teach us not to be afraid of the potential problems facing us.  We need to know You’ve already seen and dealt with them. Remind us that You will be with us to instruct us and lead us and protect us while we do the work you have put there for us to do.

Isaiah 52:7

How beautiful upon the mountains
Are the feet of him who brings good news,
Who proclaims peace,
Who brings glad tidings of good things,
Who proclaims salvation,
Who says to Zion,
“Your God reigns!”

Father,  we are asking You to be with us as we bring the good news of Your love and kindness to those who wait to hear.  Help us bring the news of Your salvation to all who need to hear.

Let us always be there to remind others that You want only those things which are good in our lives.  And we will praise You always because You reign!

Ephesians 6:4

And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord.

Lord, we love our children. There is so much today that would tempt them to do what is wrong or harmful. We want to train them properly. We want to teach them so that they can fully complete the tasks that You have placed for them. Give us wisdom, Lord. Each child needs a unique way of training that will reach them best. Show us the ways that are best for our children so that they may become men and women of God. If somehow, we fail they and are not walking with You, call them back, Lord. Where we as parents have failed, stand in the gap and bring them back. We love them, Lord. We ask that You love them as well.
