The indispensable first step to getting the things you want out of life is this: decide what you want.
Ben Stein

Do you feel like life is passing you by? Does it feel like life is hard? Do you wish that things could be better? Maybe the problem is simply that you have never taken the time to decide what you actually want. Define your goals.  Look at each factor of your life and ask how you want it to be.  Then sit down and make a plan for getting just what you want.

The time to repair the roof is when the sun is shining.
John F. Kennedy

While I don’t advocate borrowing trouble, there are times when potential problems can be diffused by simply seeing them coming and taking action. Obviously, if you know there’s a hole in your roof, you don’t wait until it rains to fix it.  If you know you’re brakes are beginning to wear on your car, you don’t wait for them to give out completely before you replace them.

Danger signs in your relationships are as important as the danger signs in the inanimate objects you possess. If those you love are unhappy or angry, it’s a good sign you need to pay attention. Keeping your home safe and your car running smoothly are important.  Just not as important as keeping your relationships intact. Remember that next time there is an angry face staring you down.

Matthew 6:34

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow for tomorrow will worry about itself.  Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Father, how true it is that each day has enough trouble. Each day requires that we work through whatever problems that present themselves. Some days we are successful and some days we just feel like we’ve treaded water into the next day. We thank You, Lord, that each days problems are already known by You. Thank You for the guidance You provide as we work through each thing. Keep us from the depression that comes from too much stress.  Fill us with Your love and bring us hope for tomorrow.

Romans 8:28

And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.

Lord, so often circumstances seem so unfavorable to us. Illness comes,  finances trouble us, our relationships with our family members isn’t always what we want it to be.  Lord, may we remember that at all times our lives are in Your hands. Help us to be comforted in the knowledge that whatever is happening today is planned by You for our good. We cannot always see the good but You can. Let us rest in that knowledge.

If you see ten troubles coming down the road, you can be sure that nine will run into the ditch before they reach you.
Calvin Coolidge

Worry about the future will only give you ulcers.

You can’t possibly avoid every single problem that life will throw at you. I am reminded of the ‘Temors’ movie where the survivalist, Bert, bemoans the fact that he had prepared for nuclear war, World War III,anything catastrophic that he could think of but he hadn’t prepared for underground monsters. Those he just had to find a way to defeat with what he had available. And he did with the help of his friends. You, too, should prepare the best you can but don’t worry that you can’t prepare for everything. If life throws something at you that you aren’t ready for, improvise! Don’t worry about all those troubles you can see.  Most of them will be gone before they get to you anyway.

If you could kick the person in the pants responsible for most of your trouble, you wouldn’t sit for a month.
Theodore Roosevelt

Sometimes these profound thoughts just hit a little close to home, don’t you think?

April 5 Quote of the Day

May the forces of evil become confused on the way to your house.
George Carlin

This is something we could wish for all of our friends and family members. Wouldn’t it be nice if everything negative that wanted to come to your home got lost on the way? Since that doesn’t always happen, it is good to remember that every cloud has a silver lining. Sometimes it can be a little difficult to find that lining but keep looking. It’s there somewhere.
