Grandpa – Fix Yourself for Us Now!

Thursday, September 22nd, 2016

Our Grandpa has cancer.  This is the Grandpa who stabilizes our lives. The one who keeps the computers running, fixes the appliances, repairs the leaking bicycle tire. The one who can take a handful of playdoh and make it into a dinosaur for Nature Boy. The one the Little Guy goes to and begs to be spun in a circle until both of them are too dizzy to stand up.

No cancer is good cancer but this one is particularly nasty.  It’s a highly aggressive lymphoma that made it to Stage IV before we knew he was sick. It’s hanging out not only in his abdomen but in his bone marrow and spinal fluid.  I’m a mommy.  I kiss hurts and make them better.  Won’t help with this hurt.

When we were told this, I just broke down and cried. Grandpa loves us and promises to not give up. That’s not an easy thing when ports are being inserted in your head to take the chemo; when special IV’s are placed in your chest, when you must spend 5 days of every 21 in the hospital where drugs are being administered to you that you know full well will make you sick.  And all the while you wonder “is this going to work?”.

I can and have been praying. Our church is praying. The churches of family members are praying along with the family.  I’m coming to you now, my nearly 2000 subscribers. Pray with us.  This Grandpa who fixes everything else for everyone else needs more than just the doctors and determination to get well.  He needs God’s help and the prayers of God’s people.

He has two little special needs boys and two granddaughters who need him to be there. Life without him is unimaginable.  God is the Giver of Life.  We’ll lean on Him.

Philippians 4:13

I can do all things through him who strengthens me.

Father,  today is a low strength day for me.  I need your strength to make it through this day.  Keep me in your sites.  Lift me when I start to fall.  There is so much to do lately.   I am pulled so many ways.

Give me wisdom to work with each situation but most of all, give me the strength promised in Your word.

November 11 Verse of the Day

Sunday, September 11th, 2016

If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
2 Chronicles 7:14

Father,

Our country has just elected a very controversial president.  Many are angry.

Many, including a former President, had refused to vote for either candidate.  Those who did felt strongly about their choice.  Now there are protests and destruction in many cities.

You have promised to heal our land if Your people, called by Your Name would humble themselves and pray.

Father, I am one of Your people.

I am called by Your Name.

I am joining now with so many across our country to ask You to heal the divisions. Speak peace to those who fear for our country now.

Give our leaders, especially our newly elected President, wisdom to guide our country.  Silence those who would cause dissent.  Above all, Lord, may Your will be done in this country.

Isaiah 1:2 (NET)

Listen, O heavens, pay attention,  O earth! For the Lord speaks:
“I raised children, I brought them up, but they have rebelled against me!

Father,

You are the only perfect parent and, yet, even You have children who rebel against You just as we do.  You know the pain of parents whose children are rejecting them, their advice, their lifestyles,  their values, everything. You love us even more fully than we can love our children. You know the pain and anguish we are feeling.

Thank you, Lord, for letting us know this.

July 24 Verse of the Day

Wednesday, September 17th, 2014

“Because he loves me”, says the Lord, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. He will call on me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble. I will deliver him and honor him.” Psalm 91: 14-16

Father. in a world where danger meets us at every turn, we need Your protection. Just everyday living brings turmoil and, often, outright danger to ourselves and those we love. When those times come, Lord, when tornadoes strike, when flooding threatens our homes, rescue us. Protect us in times of trouble.  Deliver us, Lord, from all evil.

July 21 Verse of the Day

Friday, September 12th, 2014

Then Jesus said: “Come…”
Matthew 11:28
New Living Translation

Lord, may we always hear and obey when you call us to come. It is astounding that You, who are above all others, would care to call us. But You do. You love us and say “come”. When we are tired, upset, angry, depressed, You call us to come.  You lift those burdens for us. When we are happy, relaxed, calm, serene, You call us to come and let You share in our joy

We are so grateful that the King of Kings and Lord of Lords would want to be with us.  Lord, be with us always.  Never let us forget to come.

1 Thessalonians 5: 16 – 18
(NET Bible)

Always rejoice, constantly pray, in everything give thanks.  For this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

Father, sometimes when our tears fall or our pain is intense, we can’t see where You are taking us.

Sometimes – almost every time – we overlook the fact that this is the will of Your Son concerning us and anything that is Your will can only bring us good. We know this but still we hurt and still we cry. Come to us in our need and while we pray. Where it is not possible for us to have joy, give us Your joy.  Where peace is lacking, send peace.  And in everything, Lord, we will give You all thanks for no one can love us as You do.

2 Timothy1:12
New English Translation

I know the one in whom my faith is set and I am convinced that he is able to protect what has been entrusted to me until that day.

Father, how great You are and how thankful we are to know You. You have promised to never leave us or forsake us.  We are confident that no matter where we are, we are never lost. No matter what is happening in our lives, You are there. And no matter how often fear tries to overcome us, we can always be reminded that You are able to protect us and those who have been entrusted to us.

We can never give enough thanks or praise for all You do in our lives.

Matthew 11:28 (Amplified Bible)

Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy-laden and overburdened, and I will cause you to rest. [I will ease and relieve and refresh your souls.]

Father,

There are many of us who feel the struggles of daily living. We are dealing with issues that cause depression and, further, cause rifts in our relationships with others.  Father, we need Your rest.  We need You to refresh our souls.  Come.  Hold us close.

Matthew 15:6 Amplified Bible

So for the sake of your tradition (the rules handed down by your forefathers), you have set aside the Word of God [depriving it of force and authority and making it of no effect].

Father,

Our churches – and we individually – have been guilty of setting aside Your Word for the sake of our traditions. We have done wrong. We have harmed those whom You love and whom You are calling.

We ask for Your forgiveness, Father. We ask also that You would show us where our traditions are interfering with the work You want us to do.

Give us discernment to live in this world while not being of this world.
