Everybody needs beauty as well as bread, places to play in and pray in, where nature may heal and give strength to body and soul.
John Muir

Find the spot where you can seek peace. Don’t stop searching until you know where it is. Then go there often. In a world as hectic as ours, a place where peace is for you, will renew your spirit and allow you to be mentally ready to meet each day. Without taking those few minutes in your special spot, the chaos of everyday life can soon bring bruises and bleeding to your body and soul. That place of peace can apply the salve that heals the soul.  Life is easier to face when you’re not in pain.

Psalm 69: 1-3

Save me, O God!
For the waters have come up to my neck.
I sink in deep mire,
Where there is no standing;
I have come into deep waters,
Where the floods overflow me.
I am weary with my crying;
My throat is dry;
My eyes fail while I wait for my God.

Father, life is so overwhelming at times. We, Your people, sometimes forget that You are with us through all things.  Forgive us when we complain. Remind us that even in our most trying times, You are in control of our lives.

Remind us that you are there to lift us and sustain us regardless of the circumstances.

Jeremiah 29:11

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you,  says the Lord,  thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.

Father, we love You.  It is good to hear from You that You love us as well. We are thankful for the peace You send and the good You provide to us. And, Lord, we thank you for the future and the hope You have provided for us.

Connections to the Heart

Sunday, September 9th, 2012

The little one got a new MP3 player for her birthday.  She is 7 and thinks she’s all grown up now. Her headphones are firmly planted in her ears most of the day.  She dances around the house to music only she can hear. We are breathing sighs of relief.  Sometimes, the constant noise of television, radio, CD players, etc can be overwhelming to us old people. We like silence.

She came to me yesterday with a comment that made me pause and think. She said ‘sometimes my songs connect to my heart.’ It occurs to me that it might be a good idea to stop and listen with her to the music she loves.

What ‘connects to her heart’ is going to shape her attitude and behavior.

As parents and grandparents, it’s important that we know what they listen to and connect with. We need to instill in our children the love of good music. The kind that lifts them up spiritually, that improves their attitudes, and teaches them to build bridges of love with their family and friends.  There is too much music in this world that can turn them away from what is good.  I want to be careful about what she sings.  I want to know the songs she loves and hear from her what the songs are saying to her when they connect to her heart.  I hope you’re listening to your little ones as well.

Psalm 125:4

Do good, O Lord, to those who are good,
And to those who are upright in their hearts

Father, there are those who love you and serve you. They need Your hand to reach out and touch them. Bring them peace of mind. Do good to them.  Keep them always aware of Your love. None of us are perfect but most strive daily to do good.  We ask Your forgiveness for our failures.  We thank You that we have been made righteous in You.  And we thank You for the good You do for us daily.

Isaiah 52:7

How beautiful upon the mountains
Are the feet of him who brings good news,
Who proclaims peace,
Who brings glad tidings of good things,
Who proclaims salvation,
Who says to Zion,
“Your God reigns!”

Father,  we are asking You to be with us as we bring the good news of Your love and kindness to those who wait to hear.  Help us bring the news of Your salvation to all who need to hear.

Let us always be there to remind others that You want only those things which are good in our lives.  And we will praise You always because You reign!

April 26 Quote of the Day

When you dance, your purpose is not to get to a certain place on the floor. It’s to enjoy each step along the way.
Wayne Dyer

Wouldn’t it be nice if we could all, the whole world, for just one day live our lives as if we were dancing? If each one of us everywhere was enjoying each step we took, then – and only then – would we have true peace on earth. I would like to be there for that day. Wouldn’t you?

Galatians 5:22-23

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.

Father, fill us with Your Spirit that we may show the fruits that You bring. We need to be people more like You. We need to learn to walk and act and talk as Christ did. Fill us with Your Spirit Lord. Without it, we cannot be the people You would have us to be.

A smile is the beginning of peace.
– Mother Teresa

If you’re in the middle of a heated argument, stopping to smile at the other person could be a sign of a sneer and could cause and even greater eruption. On the other hand, starting the discussion with a smile and a soft voice and keeping that smile and voice throughout the discussion will certainly go a long way toward keeping the peace.

2 Peter 3:14

Therefore, beloved, looking forward to these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot and blameless

Lord, we so want to be blameless before You. But you know that we are just people. I thank You that You have given Your Son that because of His death on the cross, we may appear blameless even though we are not. Help us to walk in Your commandments. Help us to do the right things even when it might cost us. Father, we would serve You but we don’t always get it right. Forgive us when we fail. Pick us up, dust us off, give us the heart to continue until we get it right. Give us the heart to strive to be blameless before You.
