1 Thessalonians 5: 16 – 18
(NET Bible)

Always rejoice, constantly pray, in everything give thanks.  For this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

Father, sometimes when our tears fall or our pain is intense, we can’t see where You are taking us.

Sometimes – almost every time – we overlook the fact that this is the will of Your Son concerning us and anything that is Your will can only bring us good. We know this but still we hurt and still we cry. Come to us in our need and while we pray. Where it is not possible for us to have joy, give us Your joy.  Where peace is lacking, send peace.  And in everything, Lord, we will give You all thanks for no one can love us as You do.

John 10:10

I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

Lord, bring us Your life.  Right now we are alive but we don’t have life. People chase happiness and life but it eludes them. Even many of those called by Your name live but need life. Bring us life, Lord. Lift us from depression, sadness and the feeling of futility.

Make us know that our lives are precious to You.

Jeremiah 12:1

Righteous are You, O Lord, when I plead with You;  Yet let me talk with You about Your judgments.
Why does the way of the wicked prosper?
Why are those happy who deal so treacherously?

Lord, even Your prophets didn’t always know why.  Sometimes we don’t know why either.  Our loved ones hurt and, Lord, we hurt with them.  Lord, we accept that all things are in Your hands and that You are looking toward our good. Hold us up when we are surrounded by circumstances we just don’t understand.  Fill us with Your love.  Bring us Your joy because, sometimes, we can’t find it for ourselves.

It is more rewarding to watch money change the world than watch it accumulate.
Gloria Steinem

Years ago, a man named Charles Dickens taught us this truth by telling the story of Ebenezer Scrooge.  Mr. Scrooge was caught in the chains of desire. A desire to accumulate more and more wealth.  He failed to realize that wealth itself does not bring happiness.  It’s what you can do with the wealth that brings joy both to you and to those around you.  When you’re making out the budget for next month, be sure to add a column for giving.  It doesn’t matter who you choose to help with that money.  Look around you and you’ll see a thousand place where need exists.

Even if all you have is a dollar, give it.  Watch your money do some good.

People are like stained – glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within.
Elisabeth Kubler-Ross

What kind of light do you have within you? You may wonder if you even have a light. There is an easy way to tell. Is you’re light one of loving and caring? Others who need will be drawn to you. Is your light laughter and happiness? Joy will surround you and radiate into the darkness.

Do you exude anger and hatred? The light will be sucked out of the area around where you live. Are you sad and withdrawn? Light is hidden under the sadness and won’t shine through you.

Polish your windows.

Let’s face it, a nice creamy chocolate cake does a lot for a lot of people; it does for me.
Audrey Hepburn

It’s the little things that can give you that extra boost in life. Hearing a baby laugh, watching a puppy chase his tail, seeing the joy of discovery on the face of a child, or – sometimes – just a little chocolate cake with maybe a little ice cream on the side.
