I like not only to be loved, but also to be told I am loved.
George Eliot

Today is a good day to find those you love and remind them that you love them. As a matter of fact, any day is a good day to do that.

1 Chronicles 22: 12

Only may the Lord give you wisdom and understanding.

Father, we ask for Your wisdom each day as we encounter those who need You.  Help us to understand their needs and reach out to them with the help they need.  Speak through us the words they need to hear. Help us to share with them the wisdom and understanding You have given us.

A true friend never gets in your way unless you happen to be going down.
Arnold H. Glasow

The world needs more people willing to be friends – true friends that is. We say that friends don’t let friends drive drunk. We say that because true friends don’t want harm to come to those they care about. If your friend is doing something dangerous or self-destructive, talk to him. Get in his way.  Stop him!  Be the friend who truly loves him.  Don’t let him go down without a fight.

1 Corinthians 16-14

Let all that you do be done with love.

Father, there are so many times when we don’t want to show love to others.  We’ll help them if we know they need it but we’ll avoid them whenever possible.  That doesn’t sound much like love.  Sometimes we need to pull back because there are those who would harm us.  But other times, we need to reach out.  Father, help us to sort out what is right.   Protect us from those who would harm us. Give us wisdom to know when to approach and when to pull back.

Psalm 107:9

For He satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness

Lord, You are our Father, our Teacher, our God. We come daily to You to ask that You fill us with Your Spirit. May we be so filled with Your love and goodness that it spills over to all we meet.

Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.
Dr. Seuss

As adults, we often are in need of a little wisdom to get us through the day. Situations where injustice occurs cause many to just look away.  It’s too much to fix.  If you feel that way today, pick up a Dr. Seuss book and read it to your child for a bedtime story. Unless you ‘care a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not’.  Those situations can be fixed.

In a room that’s buried in toys and clothes, you just start where you’re standing.  Pick up the first thing and put it away.  Slowly pick up one thing at a time.  Eventually you’ll be wading through the room.  Same way with social injustice.  Start where you are and just keep moving.

The world is before you and you need not take it or leave it as it was when you came in.
James A. Baldwin

When you entered this world, everyone was caring for you.  They met all your needs and nurtured you into adulthood. Now you are all grown up.

Take a look around you. Are you keeping the world just like it always has been? Is everything that happens all about you? How someone will  nurture and care for you? Or are you now working to change the world by nurturing and caring for someone else? There is much you can and should do for the loved ones in your life. They should always come first but. . . . .

While changing the world should always begin with your family, it shouldn’t necessarily end there. The homeless shelter downtown could use some help. The single mother on your street could benefit by a helping hand. The nursing home in your neighborhood has many elderly without family to visit them. Take some time outside of focusing on you and yours today and take a look at your community.  What is it that you can do to improve the community in which you live?

The problem with beauty is that it’s like being born rich and getting poorer.
Joan Collins

Physical beauty is a wonderful thing when you’re a child. People look and you and smile.  It’s wonderful for self-esteem.  It makes the child feel as if they are truly special. It’s important that children feel special but it is also important to realize that outer beauty – while nice – really has very little value. It’s inner beauty that makes a true friend, a loving mother, a caring father. If your child has been ‘born rich’ as Joan Collins says, do them a favor. Show them what it is to stay rich.  Teach them the attributes that lead to inner beauty.  That is the type of beauty that will keep them rich in the ways that matter.

People are like stained – glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within.
Elisabeth Kubler-Ross

What kind of light do you have within you? You may wonder if you even have a light. There is an easy way to tell. Is you’re light one of loving and caring? Others who need will be drawn to you. Is your light laughter and happiness? Joy will surround you and radiate into the darkness.

Do you exude anger and hatred? The light will be sucked out of the area around where you live. Are you sad and withdrawn? Light is hidden under the sadness and won’t shine through you.

Polish your windows.

Matthew 7:12

So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.

Father,  our neighbors children are hungry. Don’t let us forget that You have fed us.  Let us remember to feed them.

A family member is single with children. She struggles daily to meet the needs of her family.  Help us remember that our job is not to judge her choices or lifestyle but to reach out with whatever aid we can offer.

We are here to love and help those who are a part of our lives as we would want them to do for us in a similar situation. We are here to extend Your love to others.  Even just a smile and wave to the neighbor next door brings a sense of community and friendship.  Keep us doing the small things and the large as we can to spread Your kingdom.
