Isaiah 1:2 (NET)

Listen, O heavens, pay attention,  O earth! For the Lord speaks:
“I raised children, I brought them up, but they have rebelled against me!

You are the only perfect parent and, yet, even You have children who rebel against You just as we do.  You know the pain of parents whose children are rejecting them, their advice, their lifestyles,  their values, everything. You love us even more fully than we can love our children. You know the pain and anguish we are feeling.

Thank you, Lord, for letting us know this.

Genesis 6:8 Amplified Bible

But Noah found grace (favor) in the eyes of the Lord.

Lord,  may we live in this world as Noah lived in his. May we be able to stand firm in our faith striving always to walk in Your ways,  even though we may be surrounded by others who do not.  May we, Lord, follow the laws You gave us adhering to the spirit of the law.  Loving others, lifting others, and always praising Your goodness and majesty.

Deuteronomy 5:32-33

Therefore you shall be careful to do as the Lord your God has commanded you; you shall not turn aside to the right hand or to the left. You shall walk in all the ways which the Lord your God has commanded you, that you may live and that it may be well with you, and that you may prolong your days in the land which you shall possess.

Lord, so many of us are confused.  We hear what the church teaches,  and then we hear that another church teaches otherwise. Remind us Lord to study Your Word for ourselves.  Show us each day as we read what it is you want to teach us. Teach us each day the commandments that we must learn for that day.  Keep us from becoming bogged in the many voices telling us which way to go.  Keep us grounded in Your word so that we may know the path you want us to walk.

Romans 8:38-39

For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Lord, when troubles come to us, when we feel fractures in the family or conflict with others in our life, remind us of Your love. Fill us with Your love. Keep us from bitterness. Direct our anger rightly so that we may show ourselves to be Your children. Hold us in Your love so that we may hold others in love as well.

Genesis 1:3

Then God said “Let there be light” and there was light

Father, often we feel as if we are stumbling around in darkness not really sure of what our next step should be. We would like to ask that You – who gave light to all the earth -should give light to us individually each day. Guide our steps so that we may walk closer to You each day.

Psalm 37: 3-4

Trust in the Lord, and do good. Dwell in the land and feed on His faithfulness. Delight yourself also in the Lord and He shall give you the desires of your heart.

Father, trust is difficult sometimes. We seem to be surrounded by problems, illness and financial strain. Can we bring these things to You and just lay them at Your feet? Give us the faith to know that You only want our good. Remind us that You are there to give us the desires of our heart. Lord, we trust in You. Help us when trust comes hard.

Psalm 27:14

Wait on the Lord, Be of good courage. And He shall strengthen your heart. Wait, I say, on the Lord.

Lord, when trouble surrounds us, when the problems seem insurmountable, help us to remember that You are our strength and our guide. Help us to remember to wait on You. Help us control our panic. Remind us that you are the one who must lead. If we walk without waiting for You, we walk blindly. Strengthen our hearts that we may wait in peace for You.

Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your paths.

Father, trust comes hard for us. Each day brings new challenges and sometimes we aren’t sure Your ways will brings us to our destination. We don’t know what we’re doing half the time but we’re not sure we really always understand which way is Your way either. So, Lord, if you don’t mind, just direct our paths anyway. Accept that, in our hearts, we truly want to trust in You, we’re just not always good at it. Accept also that we really do want to walk on the path You have laid out for us. We just sometimes see all the bumps in the road and fail to remember that Your path will ultimately be the path that leads us home. And, we are often like hyperactive children darting off this way and that. Keep us focused Lord. Trusting in you, acknowledging you, letting you direct our paths are all learning processes. Forgive us when we get off the path. Hold our hands and lead us for we acknowledge you as our Lord.
