Grandpa – Fix Yourself for Us Now!

Thursday, September 22nd, 2016

Our Grandpa has cancer.  This is the Grandpa who stabilizes our lives. The one who keeps the computers running, fixes the appliances, repairs the leaking bicycle tire. The one who can take a handful of playdoh and make it into a dinosaur for Nature Boy. The one the Little Guy goes to and begs to be spun in a circle until both of them are too dizzy to stand up.

No cancer is good cancer but this one is particularly nasty.  It’s a highly aggressive lymphoma that made it to Stage IV before we knew he was sick. It’s hanging out not only in his abdomen but in his bone marrow and spinal fluid.  I’m a mommy.  I kiss hurts and make them better.  Won’t help with this hurt.

When we were told this, I just broke down and cried. Grandpa loves us and promises to not give up. That’s not an easy thing when ports are being inserted in your head to take the chemo; when special IV’s are placed in your chest, when you must spend 5 days of every 21 in the hospital where drugs are being administered to you that you know full well will make you sick.  And all the while you wonder “is this going to work?”.

I can and have been praying. Our church is praying. The churches of family members are praying along with the family.  I’m coming to you now, my nearly 2000 subscribers. Pray with us.  This Grandpa who fixes everything else for everyone else needs more than just the doctors and determination to get well.  He needs God’s help and the prayers of God’s people.

He has two little special needs boys and two granddaughters who need him to be there. Life without him is unimaginable.  God is the Giver of Life.  We’ll lean on Him.

Teaching Your Dog Tricks

Wednesday, May 2nd, 2012

Q: Hi So one of my dogs is pretty hard to train (she is well trained but I like to keep up to date with training and teach her different tricks) anyway she gets bored REALLY easily If she gets bored she walks away Any tips on how to get her to do the trick I want without her getting bored

A: Honestly, this isn’t a question I can answer. I don’t know what you’re trying to teach your dog or why she gets bored. Usually dogs are very attentive when they are receiving attention from their owners. The most obvious answers I’m sure you are already using – keeping treats available as rewards, using verbal praise and petting, etc. There are numerous online videos available for free that may help you. You can also do research about your particular problem by just using your search engine. Your local library or bookstore should also have books available to teach you how to do a better job of training your pet.

Graduating from College Doesn’t Guarantee Success

Tuesday, January 24th, 2012

Q: What is the best way for a recent creative writing grad to get an agent?

A: I am hardly the most qualified person to answer this question. There are literally hundreds of published authors out there who will give you significantly better advice. I strongly recommend that you spend some time researching this information on the internet and checking out some books from your local library. As a creative writing grad, you may have encountered agents in some of your classes who could give you pointers as well.

My advice to you would be to spend a lot of time writing. Before you can actually get an agent to represent you, you must prove that you can and will discipline yourself to write consistently. One way to do this is to write articles for magazines (or blogs). Send them out regularly. Plan on being rejected. Keep at it until you begin to have a portfolio of published articles. Once you have accomplished this, an agent will be more likely to want to work with you since he/she will be certain that you have the self-discipline to continue until you have completed a project. There aren’t very many writers who are overnight successes. Writing, like any other career, takes perseverance to succeed. Being a college graduate gives you a step-up from the crowd. Unfortunately, it won’t have agents pounding at your door. The student who graduates as a business major won’t become CEO of a company the moment he leaves college. He has to work his way to that position. You will have to work your way up also. Good luck!

Caring for Your Husky Dog

Friday, January 13th, 2012

Q: I am planning to get a sometime and was wonder how can I keep them cool during the summer, I do understand the responsibility and the amount of the exercise required. How could I keep them cool while I am not at home Can I put ice cubes in there water Can I put a kiddie pool on my patio and just leave them outside with water Please and Thank you

A: I have never owned a Husky and have never known anyone who did so I did some research on this question. I found several really good websites that will give you information about the Husky. Apparently, their coat protects them from both heat and cold. As far as leaving them unattended, that doesn’t seem to be a good idea. The Husky is known for being an escape artist and can easily jump 8’ fences and loves to dig under those it can’t jump over. To give you further information, I have listed a couple of the websites I found most interesting. They are:

http://www.siberianrescue.com/seneca.htm

The Husky seems like a great dog to own. Good luck and enjoy your new pet.

Is The End of the World Coming?

Tuesday, November 29th, 2011

Q: Do you think the world is going to come to an end in 2012 like some people say?

A: People who are saying this seem to be basing their theory on the fact that the Mayan calendar doesn’t go past 2012. My theory is that the Mayans haven’t been around for quite a while and probably felt they could make updated calendars as 2012 approached. They just haven’t been around to do it. People have been predicting the end of the world since the beginning of recorded history. Even prior to the birth of Christ there were people proclaiming the end of the world was about to happen. Since then, most everybody, Christian and non-Christian alike have jumped on the bandwagon. Martin Luther, one of the Popes, Pat Robertson, Harold Camp are several well-known Christian leaders who have predicted the end of the world. Then there are the prophets like Nostradamus, Jeanne Dixon and Edgar Cayce who took a shot at a prediction. We’re still here. Bunches of cults have committed mass suicides anticipating the end of the world. They’re gone but we’re not. So far the only one who has been right about the end of the world is Jesus who told his followers that no one knows the end time accept God. Given the sheer numbers of people predicting the end of the world, I’m sure somebody, some time is going to get lucky and guess the actual date. Until then, I plan on preparing for my future. While I’m at it, I’m going to remember that life is tenuous and try to appreciate those I am lucky enough to know. So, to answer your question, the world may come to an end in 2012. Somebody has to get it right someday but I’m not losing any sleep over it.

Chihuahua Puppy

Monday, November 28th, 2011

Q: How many times a day should you feed a 7 month old chihuahua puppy

A: I am no dog expert and have never owned a Chihuahua but I have owned several other types of dogs over the course of my lifetime. I have always left dry food and water out for them all day. I understand that some dogs get overweight from this but I’ve never had a problem with my dogs. Many other people I know have a set schedule of once or twice a day to feed their dogs. Since I’ve never owned a Chihuahua, I decided it would be a good idea to check into your question. From what I read, Chihuahuas tend towards becoming hyperglycemic and have to be fed regularly because of it. I found a very helpful site on the feeding of Chihuahuas. It is http://www.chihuahuapuppiesguide.com/feeding-chihuahua.html. Enjoy your puppy!

Where Should I Attend College?

Friday, November 18th, 2011

Q: I’m only a sophmore in high school but I know I love to write and I don’t know what I’d enjoy more as an actual career, journalism or creative writing. What would be the best college for someone like me?.

A: I did a little Google search for you and found these sites which would be able to answer your questions much better than I could. The sites are:

Guest Writers?

Friday, September 30th, 2011

Q: Do you offer guest writers to write content for yourself? I wouldn’t mind writing a post or elaborating on a number of the subjects you write with regards to here. Again, awesome website!

A: At this time, I do all the writing for the articles on this site myself. I would like to hear your thoughts on the subjects I write on.   Please post any thoughts you have on the comment sections at the end of each article.  I would also be interested in seeing others give answers to questions that have already been posted.  That, too, can be done by clicking on the ‘comment’ icon on the bottom of each article or question.
